First Sonya Kovalevsky Day
The first SK Day was held on May 12th, 2012, organized by Maria Lorenz and Temple mathematics graduate student Meredith Hegg. Lorenz and Hegg received funding from the Association of Women in Mathematics for this event through a national competition. A total of 25 girls in grades 6-10 attended. Most of these girls were from the city of Philadelphia. Workshop leaders included Holly Gaff (Professor of Biological Sciences at Old Dominion University), Temple math graduate student Sarah Dubicki, and Temple undergraduate students Jennifer Hartman, Kathryn Lund, Laura Szmidt, and Kiersten Thompson.
