SIAM Activity Group on Linear Algebra
International Summer School on Numerical Linear Algebra
The SIAM Activity Group on Linear Algebra organizes a summer school: The
SIAG/LA International Summer School on Numerical Linear Algebra
(ISSNLA).
The main goal of the SIAG/LA-ISSNLA is to offer accessible
courses on current developments in Numerical Linear Algebra and on
the applications of Numerical Linear Algebra to other
disciplines.
The SIAG/LA-ISSNLA is mainly intended for graduate students in
any field where methods and algorithms of Numerical Linear Algebra
are used.
2010
The 2nd SIAG/LA
International Summer School on Numerical Linear Algebra (ISSNLA) (opens in new window)
was also the first Gene Golub SIAM Summer
School 2010. The first Gene Golub SIAM Summer School
took place at the Hotel Sierra Silvana, Selva di Fasano, Brindisi (Italy).
The following four courses where
given
during the two weeks from the 7th to the 18th of June 2010.
- Minimizing communication in numerical linear algebra, James Demmel,
University of California at Berkeley, USA
- Nonlinear eigenvalue problems: analysis and numerical solution, Volker
Mehrmann, Technische Universitaet Berlin, Germany
- From Matrix to Tensor: The Transition to Computational Multilinear
Algebra, Charles Van Loan, Cornell University, Ithaca, New York,
USA
- Linear Algebra and Optimization, Margaret H. Wright, Courant Institute,
New York University, USA

2008
The first ISSNLA took place in Spain, July 21-25,
2008. The Summer School was held in cooperation SIMUMAT (opens in new window)
(Mathematical Modeling and Numerical Simulation in Science and
Technology) and took the form of the
SIAG/LA-SIMUMAT International
Summer School on Numerical Linear Algebra (opens in new window). The following four courses where
given
during the two weeks from the 7th to the 18th of June 2010.
- Krylov subspace methods for solving linear systems, Michael Eiermann, Institut für Numerische
Mathematik und Optimierung,
Technische Universität Bergakademie Freiberg
- Matrix methods in data mining Lars Eldén, Department of
Mathematics, Linköping University
- Mechanics and linear algebra Richard B. Lehoucq, Sandia National Laboratories
- Structured eigenvalue problems: modern theory and
computational practice David S. Watkins, Department of
Mathematics, Washington State University
