Current Semester
This semester, Spring 2009, I am teaching Calculus II at Okla. State University, Stillwater.Instructorship
As the primary instructor, I had sole responsibility for lectures, exams, homework assignments, and grades, for the following courses:
- Calculus II, Spring 2009, Okla. State University, Stillwater
- Calculus III, Fall 2008, Okla. State University, Stillwater
- Vector Analysis, Summer 2007, Univ. of California, Davis
- Vector Analysis, Fall 2005, Univ. of California, Davis
- Short-Sequence Calculus II, Spring 2004, Univ. of California, Davis
Mentorship
Faculty Supervisor for the Honors Contract, Okla. State University, Stillwater, Fall 2008
Supervised an independent study course in conjunction with my Calculus III course under the \emph{Honors Contract}, which is a part of the honors program at Okla. State University. Met with the student weekly to guide him to rediscover my simple new proof of Halpern's theorem (1970) on double-normal lines for planar immersed curves; collaborated with the student on a possible new generalization of the theorem to the 2-sphere, which would be quite a substantial work for a first-year student.
Faculty Supervisor for the Honors Contract, Univ. of California, Davis, Fall 2005
Supervised a student-designed program of independent study in conjunction with my Vector Analysis course under the Honors Contract, which is a part of the honors program at Univ. of California, Davis. Met with the student weekly to provide reading materials, to explain mathematical ideas, and to suggest directions for her studies; helped the project evolve from the study of symmetric patterns using mathematics familiar to the student, such as vector calculus and lower-division linear algebra, into the study of representations of cystallographic groups.
Teaching Assistantship
While I was a graduate student, I have served as a Teaching Assistant for numerous courses, ranging from lower-division to upper-division courses. I have also assumed a few special TA positions.
Lead Teaching Assistant, Univ. of California, Davis, Winter 2008
Had sole responsibility for keeping the instructor (Prof. De Loera), the department, and other teaching assistants in close liaison for the Vector Analysis course.
Teaching Assistant, Univ. of California, Davis, various quarters
Held discussion sections and/or office hours, and shared responsibility for grading exams:
(Upper-Division)
- Complex Analysis
- Convex Geometry
- Applied Linear Algebra
- History of Mathematics
(Lower-Division)
- Calculus
- Short-Sequence Calculus
Calculus Instructor for the Professional Development Program, Univ. of California, Berkeley, Spring 2002
With the recommendation of the department, served as a Calculus instructor for Professional Development Program, which runs intensive discussion sections for lower-division mathematics courses to provide underrepresented student body in mathematics and sciences a rigorous yet supportive classroom experience.
Designed and led highly interactive discussion sections 6 hours per week, held office hours, prepared and administered quizzes, and shared responsibility for grading exams.
Head Graduate Student Instructor, Univ. of California, Berkeley, Fall 2000
Had sole responsibility for handling the enrollment issues for all sections of the Linear Algebra and Differential Equations course and keeping the instructors (Prof. Okounkov and Prof. Voiculescu), the department, and other teaching assistants in close liaison.
- Graduate Student Instructor,
various semesters, Univ. of California, Berkeley
Prepared and administered quizzes, led interactive discussion sections, held office hours, and shared responsibility for grading exams and assigning final grades:
(Lower-Division)
- Discrete Mathematics
- Linear Algebra and Differential Equations
- Vector Analysis
- Calculus
