John Majewicz's Electronic Headquarters

Last Update: 31 March 1997.

I am a Ph. D. candidate at Temple University, under the direction of Doron Zeilberger . I expect to graduate on May, 1997. I am presently employed as a Visiting Lecturer at Community College of Philadelphia. Perhaps you would like to see my curriculum vitae or my teaching philosophy.

So far, I have written two papers; WZ-style certification and Sister Celine's technique for Abel-type sums, that appeared in the new journal `Journal of Difference Equations and Applications' 2(1996), 55-65, and

A Short, WZ-style proof, of Abel's identity that appeared in v.3(2)[1996, Foata Festschrift], R16, of the Electronic Journal of Combinatorics. The Maple program celine accompanies the first paper in case you've been dying to find an operator annihilating your favorite Abel-type term.

Some of the research I completed with my adviser is cited in the excellent book A=B. The authors of the book are Marko Petkovsek, Herbert S. Wilf and my adviser Doron Zeilberger. Marko Petkovsek is a Professor of Mathematics at University of Ljubljana located in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

Another paper, `On A Positivity Conjecture of H. Lewy and R. Askey', is in preperation. Some of the results will be presented at the First ISAAC Conference in Newark, Delaware, which is to take place from June 3 through June 7, 1997. Click here for information on Session 13 on "Orthogonal Polynomials".

In the meantime, feel free to use the program check if you want to check positivity of infinitely many coefficients of the rational function in question. Click here to see the rational function in question.

The following section contains information about some particularly nice, useful places to visit. ENJOY!

My undergraduate alma mater, the Pennsylvania State University has a wonderful home page. Take a look! It's a beautiful campus.

If you want to see some really great home pages, browse through those of my Temple University colleagues: Tewodros Amdeberhan (his third name is even longer), Hwajeong Choi (one of the many female graduate students at Temple), Cristian Gurita (everyone's favorite Romanian), Kurt Ludwick (another Penn Stater), John Noonan (the recent father of the group), and last, but not least, Melkamu Zeleke (no relation of Aklilu Zeleke, his office mate).

If you don't own a car (like me), then you may find SEPTA's home page particularly useful.

I'm also a great fan of `pop art'. One of the greatest artists of this century was a pop artist, and we both claim Pittsburgh, PA as our hometown. Of course, I must be talking about ANDY WARHOL. (He's pictured with one of his many proteges, Edie Sedgewick.)The Andy Warhol Museum is one of my favorite places to go when I'm visiting Pittsburgh; it's one of the world's largest single-artist museum's! That Andy Warhol certainly was prolific.

I hope it was enjoyable!
