Issues in Undergraduate Mathematics
Sheila Tobias
For twenty-five years, Sheila Tobias has been involved in the diagnosis
and treatment of mathematics anxiety and avoidance in college students,
the special needs and problems of women and minorities in mathematics,
remedial (developmental) mathematics, and teacher preparation. She is
the author of Overcoming Math Anxiety, Succeed with Math, They’re not
Dumb, They’re Different, and a study of in-class examinations in
mathematics and science. This Special Event, to be held during the
Monday afternoon Colloquium slot, will take the form of a free-form
discussion with members of the faculty, graduate students planning to
teach, undergraduates and local teachers.
