speaking on

"Everything You Always Wanted to Know About the Heisenberg Group but Were Afraid to Ask"

ABSTRACT: Being the first talk after the winter break (and the first talk of the new Millennium!) it will be a light and smooth exposition about this very interesting and useful group, describing what it is, what it looks like, where it came from, what it is good at. We will look at it from the different perspectives of Algebra, Differential Geometry and Partial Differential Equations.

All are welcome, since very little background will be assumed. Some refreshments will be served.

Lecture: Wednesday, January 17, MMI (i.e. 2001), at 4:00pm

Room 617, Wachman Hall, Department of Mathematics, 6th Floor Temple University
