speaking on
"Fourier Transform on the Heisenberg Group"
ABSTRACT: This talk will deal with what you get if your name is Mendel (or Michurin) and you cross a Fourier and a Heisenberg.
In the good tradition of my talks, a lot of metaphors and pictures will be involved, making it very accessible. I will picture for you Lie groups first, then the Heisenberg group, a very special one; then I will talk (again!) about the Fourier transform and finally I will cross these two subjects and you'll see what we get.
The moral of this talk in one sentence: It's all about (NON) commutativity.
First Lecture: Wednesday, November 8, at 4:00pm
Second Lecture: Wednesday, November 15, at 4:00pm
